I hear people, not just men, make comments like “why do we need to post/report on this, it’s not a big deal?” Be it for women, people of color, those in the LGBTQ+ community or people of different religions, being elected in politics.
But we should post/report on stuff like this because it’s 2021 and all of the above haven’t had many opportunities in politics.
I meant his, this newly appointed governor is the FIRST woman governor in New York!
And:
“Hochul is only the 45th female governor in the 245-year history of the US, according to data by the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) at Rutgers University.
With the addition of New York, 31 states have now had a woman governor. Nineteen states have not.” In 245 years of our America we have only had 45 female governors! 😳
So, yes, we need to share and celebrate this stuff. Not just women but men too. Why? So men can tell their daughters (now more than ever) that there isn’t anything they can’t be when they grow up…and mean it. That little girls can grow up and be whatever they want and not be held back because of their gender (or because of men believing women are inferior to them…which granted still exists) anymore.
One day we’ll get to a place where this is the norm. But that day is not today. So, go ahead and share this good news just like I am in this blog. 😊😉🥳
